About Dudhsagar Falls

Dudhsagar Falls is one of the largest and most powerful waterfalls in India, located deep within the forests of the Western Ghats. The name “Dudhsagar” means “Sea of Milk,” as the water looks all white and foamy, just like milk flowing down the rocks.

It becomes extremely strong and wide, especially during the monsoon, when the waterfall drops from a height of around 310 meters in a four-tier cascade.

It is especially famous for its train bridge view. Being one of the most iconic scenes to encounter in India as the trains cross the bridge right in front of the waterfall. Another reason for its popularity is its deep forest setting. The falls are surrounded by dense greenery and wildlife, which adds to the overall beauty.

However, reaching here is not as easy as any usual tourist spot. The waterfall lies inside a protected forest area, and direct entry or solo trekking is restricted.

So, the most common and official way to visit Dudhsagar Falls is through a jeep safari from the forest entry point. This journey becomes an adventure in itself, filled with scenic forest views.

Where is Dudhsagar Falls Located?

The Dudhsagar Falls are located on the border of Goa and Karnataka. It falls within the protected area of Bhagwan Mahaveer Wildlife Sanctuary and Mollem National Park. On the map, the waterfall lies along the Mandovi River, away from main roads and cities.

This is why it is not directly accessible by road. And the closest entry point to the waterfall is Kulem, which serves as the base for jeep safaris. Mollem is another key point and also has a forest check post for entry.

Since the falls are inside a restricted zone, you can only go beyond this point through an authorised transport.

The nearest station to Dudhsagar Falls is the Kulem Railway StationIt is well-connected to major cities in Goa and is close to the jeep safari starting point.

Reach Kulem → enter through the forest gate → continue by jeep safari.
