9 places to visit near Dudhsagar waterfall
Dudhsagar sits inside the largest protected forest belt in Goa — which means an unusual density of temples, sanctuaries, plantations and viewpoints within an easy drive of Kulem. If you're staying more than a day, here's what's worth adding on.
1. Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary
The 240 km² sanctuary that wraps around Mollem National Park. Home to Bengal tigers, Indian bison (gaur), sambar and spotted deer, and one of the highest densities of Malabar giant squirrels in the country. Best explored by permitted safari — the same 4×4 route that takes you to Dudhsagar passes through the sanctuary.
2. Tambdi Surla Mahadev Temple
A 12th-century Kadamba-era stone shrine to Lord Shiva, tucked deep inside the sanctuary. Built entirely in basalt — the same rock that Dudhsagar cascades over — with intricate carvings and a working sanctum. 22 km from Kulem, worth a half-day pairing.
3. Mollem National Park
The 107 km² protected core inside the wider Bhagwan Mahavir sanctuary. Dense evergreen forest, three named waterfalls including Dudhsagar, and the best chance in Goa of spotting a Malabar pied hornbill.
4. Sahakari & Savoi Spice Plantations
Working plantations that grow pepper, cardamom, vanilla, nutmeg and cinnamon. Most visitors get their first taste of the plantation experience through the buffet lunch on our Dudhsagar package — but a dedicated visit lets you walk the growing area properly, watch spice-processing, and see the eco-lodges.
5. Tambdi Waterfalls (Netravali)
A quieter 50-metre cascade in the Netravali sanctuary, about 60 km south of Kulem. Nowhere near Dudhsagar's scale, but far fewer people and an easier walk-in. A good add-on if you're spending time in South Goa.
6. Kulem Village
The small Western Ghats village that serves as the gateway to the sanctuary and starting point for every Dudhsagar jeep safari. Two-street town, a railway station, a few tea stalls — worth a short wander if you arrive early for your slot.
7. Selaulim Dam
A large reservoir on the Salaulim river in South Goa, about 45 km from Kulem. Scenic viewpoints, birdwatching in winter, and a small photo garden inside the dam premises. Best combined with the Netravali sanctuary in a single day.
8. Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary
An 86 km² sanctuary in southern Goa, further from Dudhsagar than the others (about 90 km) but with a distinct character — dryer forest, treetop watchtowers, and a chance of leopards and rare four-horned antelopes.
9. Panaji & Old Goa
Goa's capital and its colonial-era heart. Panaji for Portuguese-era architecture, riverside cafés and the Latin Quarter of Fontainhas; Old Goa for the Basilica of Bom Jesus, Se Cathedral and the church complex.
