Overview

On the border of Goa and Karnataka, you will find a four-tiered Dudhsagar waterfall, one of the most beautiful, scenic and the tallest waterfalls of India. Situated at a height of 301 meters, the trail starts from Kulem railway station boosting rich flora, fauna and scenery. A unique thing about the trek is that you have to trek through an old railway track to reach the Dudhsagar waterfalls. The falls literally means ‘sea of milk’ boosting a breath-taking scenery making your trip to Dudhsagar waterfalls a memorable one.

One can also trek here from Castle Rock Station, which is also a challenging yet rewarding experience. The cascading fall makes a small pool at the foothills formed by rocks, ideal for bathing and enjoying the cold water. The cascading effect of the waterfall gives an illusion of a milky white sea falling from a great height. Hence, the name- Dudhsagar Waterfalls.

Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit Dudhsagar waterfalls is during the monsoon and pre-monsoon seasons. From June, the water level rises, so the view of the cascading waterfall is simply the best. Due to rains, the water level rises, affecting the water flow, so the falls in monsoon look glorious. Also, the surrounding area is lush, and the pool at the foot of the falls is also flowing with water for trekkers to swim in. The climate is also quite pleasant during monsoon. But be cautious, as the trail is a bit slippery. The post-monsoon season is also ideal, especially for people who are new to trekking.

Where is Dudhsagar Waterfall?

Dudhsagar waterfall is situated between Karnataka and Goa, in the Bhagwan Mahaveer Sanctuary and Mollem National Park. Dudhsagar is 310 meters high, making it one of the tallest waterfalls in India. 

Dudhsagar waterfalls Goa is accessible from many cities like Pune, Mumbai, Panjim, Hyderabad, and even Bangalore. Here is how:

  • By Train: Take a train from Mumbai, Pune, or any city to Kulem or Londa (29 km from Kulem). If you get off at Londa, you can take a local train or taxi to reach Kulem.
  • From Kulem, Dudhsagar waterfalls is only 10 km away, and you can hire a jeep to drive you partway up the hill. From there, walk a bit to reach the falls. 

Another way to reach the falls from Kulem is to trek 11 km, either using the mud trek or the railway tracks trek.

Dudhsagar waterfalls in Goa are open throughout the year. But if you want to see it in its most gorgeous and stunning form. The views of water cascading down from a massive height and creating a pool below are best experienced in the monsoon season. However, remember that trekking the falls in the winter is a bit challenging due to the tricky and slippery terrain.
