Dudhsagar jeep safari — the only way to the base
The 4×4 jeep safari is the only permitted way to reach the base of Dudhsagar Falls. Private vehicles aren't allowed inside the sanctuary; the alternative — a 14 km railway trek from Castle Rock — takes a full day. The jeep is what makes Dudhsagar a half-day trip.
What the ride is like
A convoy of Mahindra and Maruti 4×4 jeeps leaves the forest-department bay near Kulem station on the hour. Each jeep seats 6–7 guests plus the captain. The route drops into the sanctuary, threads through six river crossings (thigh-deep in monsoon, calf-deep in winter, dry-ish in summer), climbs a rutted forest road, and drops you at the trail-head about 30–45 minutes later. The walking trail from the drop-off to the plunge pool is under 500 metres, mostly gentle.

Permit rules you should know
- Every visitor needs a jungle-entry permit for the sanctuary. We arrange yours before you arrive — that's why our groups skip the ticket queue at Kulem.
- Number of daily permits is capped by the forest department. Peak weekends (Oct–Feb) sell out — book at least a week ahead.
- Drones, professional cameras and commercial photography are not permitted without a separate permit; regular cameras and phones are fine.
- Alcohol and single-use plastics are prohibited inside the sanctuary.
What to wear on the jeep ride
- Shoes with grip. The trail from the jeep drop to the pool has wet rock.
- Clothes you don't mind getting sprayed. The river crossings can splash into open jeeps in monsoon.
- A dry set for the ride back. Bring a spare in a plastic bag if you plan to enter the pool.
- Cap or hat. Sun in dry months, rain in wet ones.
